Mashgin is applying the latest, cutting-edge computer vision technology to retail checkout, particularly to cafeteria use cases. Whereas the current state of the art in retail self-checkout requires customers to scan a barcode, the Mashgin solution can instantly “see'' multiple items in whatever orientation, regardless of whether they are packaged or unpackaged. This technology has led to deals with cafeteria management giants, Aramark and Compass Group. The founders have terrific backgrounds: they are both IIT graduates with industry experience such as Facebook, ToyotaRobotics, and Microsoft research.
